Antivirus Software Downloading & Instructions

All University-licensed software is now being offered through VIP . Please contact the University Technology Services Help Desk at (803) 777-1800 if you need assistance or require additional support.

* NOTE: The Trend Micro client is licensed for faculty, staff, and student computers engaged in USC teaching, learning, research, and administration, and is not intended for personal use. University students are licensed to use TrendMicro for their personal computers.

Please download TrendMicro no later than August 31st, 2006. After August 31st, 2006, the critical updates for McAfee will no longer be available through the University.

  1. Go to VIP - https://vip.sc.edu - and login.
     
  2. Click on Technology and “Show Me Software Distribution”.
     
  3. Choose the Antivirus option for your operating system.
     
  4. Read the legal information and check the box to continue.
    ** This installation may take several minutes. You may not see a status update during this time. This is normal.
     
  5. Follow the appropriate links to download this software. You may see a warning box asking if this program is okay to run. Choose Run.
     
  6. When prompted, choose Run or Save to install TrendMicro Office Scan. FYI: You do not need to uninstall McAfee …it will be done automatically for you.
     
  7. After this is installed, you may notice a "balloon" that pops up on your computer stating that "Your computer may be at risk..." DON'T PANIC! This is because during the TrendMicro Office Scan process, your current antivirus protection was uninstalled. If you click on the balloon, you will notice that your computer is protected by TrendMicro Office Scan protection. You are protected. Updates will be installed every hour that you are online.
     
  8. Please right-click on the TrendMicro Office Scan icon in your system tray and select Update Now. Please do this to complete the installation. You can also right-click on the icon and select Office Scan Main. From there, you can do a Virus scan and check for spyware, which is highly recommended.
     

Detailed Instructions (For all Operating Systems except Macintosh OS)

Login to VIP using your Identification number and PIN. Once logged in, you will see the main menu. Choose the Technology option to the left of the screen.



Click on the “Show Me Software Distribution” link.



Click on the link that is appropriate for your Operating System (such as Win XP/2000) and your University status (such as Faculty/Staff or Student)

Read the terms of this software, check the box and click Continue.

* NOTE: TrendMicro Office Scan is not licensed for faculty/staff personal computers. Faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to purchase their own antivirus software for computers that are used for non-University affairs.



You will see a screen that provides a link to the software. Click on the link.

A File Download screen will pop-up. Click Run to continue with the download.

This installation may take several minutes. You may not see a status update during this time. This is normal. You will see a series of downloading screens. You may notice a Warning screen as well that asks if you trust the source of the download. Please click on the continue buttons to finish installing TrendMicro Office Scan AntiVirus Protection to your computer.
