Conferencing Services

Want to meet with clients and colleagues, but without incurring high travel expenses? University Technology Services offers a full suite of conferencing options for you in gather your group online or on the telephone.

  • Enhanced Conference Rooms and Classrooms - available for private or group conferencing
  • Conferencing Technologies - hold your meeting by telephone, video, or the web. Use digital tools for presentations, document viewing and editing, and more!

Video Conferencing

Video conferencing and telepresence technologies offer an excellent way to connect and interact with colleagues while saving time, money and resources.

The University of South Carolina’s combined conferencing solution allows for live and interactive broadcast of meetings to remote sites. This offsets travel and hotel costs, allowing colleagues to meet in a virtual setting for conferences, dissertation defenses, research collaborations or business meetings.

University Technology Services can tailor video conferencing services to specific events and needs, with a number of audio and video conferencing locations maintained around the USC Columbia campus which are linked to other video conferencing sites. Adobe Connect Pro

Adobe Connect Professional is a full-featured, secure Web conferencing system, and a great tool for creating online meetings or web seminars.

Participants log in through the Internet and interact via real-time audio and video, share presentations, and join discussions verbally or by chat. Sessions can be archived and viewed at a later date. And because it's through the web, you and your group can join in from anywhere there is an Internet connection - from a classroom, conference room, on the road, or from your office.

Authorized faculty and staff of the University of South Carolina can apply for an Adobe Connect account through University Technology Service. For a full list of features with Adobe Connect, click here.

UTS can help you set up your conference through Adobe Connect Pro, or we can help you integrate it into your video or telephone conference. And our staff can show you how easy it is to administer and use the software. To set up a conference, or for more information call the UTS Service Desk at 803-777-1800.

Telephone Conferencing

Telephone conferencing lets you instantly link with colleagues wherever they have phone service. Using an 800 number, multiple participants can dial in and join the secure conversation using a pre-assigned code. This service is available to University faculty, staff, and student organizations at a cost of just $0.10 per minute, per person. We even offer optional conference telephone equipment rental (see below). And of course, your conference call will be fully supported by the UTS Service Desk.

Setting up your conference call with UTS is as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Send an email to servicedesk@sc.edu with the following information:
    • The department making the request
    • The department account and fund number to be charged
    • The department contact name, phone number and email address
    • Total number of participants
    • Date of conference call
    • Time of conference call - include start time and approximate end time
  2. You (or the listed contact) will receive a confirmation email that includes the following information:
    • The toll-free number for participants to call
    • The six digit code participants will use to join your conference call
    • Instructions for the conference call
  3. You can simply forward this confirmation email to all participants who are scheduled to join the call

Conference Telephone Equipment Rental

University Technology Services has Polycom conference telephones available for daily rental at $5.00 per day. The Polycom telephone has the following features:polycom

  • Full-duplex operation
  • microphones, noise reduction control, and automatic gain control
  • a high-fidelity speaker
  • integrated keypad with LCD display
  • 2 external wired microphones

To reserve your Polycom Conference Telephone, contact the UTS Service Desk at 777-1800, or send an email to servicedesk@sc.edu. Please include the following information:

  • The department making the request
  • The department account and fund number to be charged
  • The department contact name, phone number and email address
  • The date and time the telephone will be needed.

If you send us an email, we contact you via phone or send you a confirmation email.

The telephone equipment may be picked up at the UTS Information Desk at our 1244 Blossom St. office. We also have technicians available to deliver, set up and test the equipment for a charge of $75 per hour (minimum 1 hour).
